Which Social Media is Right for Your Business?

By Theresa Schempp

As a business owner, the importance of reaching your audience via social media is apparent. However, in the world of social media, one size does not fit all. What works for a business geared towards a younger audience will not work for a business to business company. To correctly navigate social media platforms, below are some guidelines to help your business choose the right path:

Instagram: with a reach of over 1 billion users per month, with 61% of those users age 18-34. These statistics mirror findings that Instagram is best for businesses that cater to a younger demographic. In addition, businesses should study the most recent algorithms of the app to optimize their engagement on Instagram.

LinkedIn: in 2015, LinkedIn became the #1 most important social platform for B2B marketers, with 41% of B2B marketers putting it at the top of their list. Not only is LinkedIn an excellent way to build your brand, but also can connect you to fellow business owners as well as potential employees.

Facebook: while it began as an app to connect to others, for businesses it has proven to be the best platform to promote events or sell your services. For this reason, if your business is geared towards the shopping community, Facebook could be an ideal to have as a second platform of income other than your website.

Twitter: a platform that can promote your business through direct engagement with your audience. However, many businesses have found that Twitter is not optimal as a primary platform. A certain presence on Twitter though can promote your business via Google search engine. Tweets are indexed by Google and can be useful in terms of search optimization.
